Washington – Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker released the following statement on trade and tariffs:
“The American people are thriving after passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which unleashed economic growth leading to employee bonuses and record low unemployment. Raising taxes in the form of tariffs will only weaken our now-healthy economy. As we have learned from history, most recently in 2002, the Administration should reject big-government actions like tariffs and let American workers thrive without government intervention by picking winners and losers in different sectors of the economy. While we support the Administration’s aim to get the best deal for the American people, leaving free trade agreements or sparking a trade war could leave our allies exposed, our domestic manufacturers scrambling and our economy in turmoil."
